Perfect Day around the Guttland.Trail Mamerleeën

Nature, History and Local Flavours

The Guttland.Trail Mamerleeën is a fascinating circular walk for those who enjoy being active in nature while discovering impressive rock and cave formations. The 7.5-kilometre route between Mersch and Schoenfels offers not only a physical challenge, but also peaceful moments, variety, and many highlights for nature lovers and explorers. A full day around the trail promises a well-balanced mix of outdoor experiences, culinary treats, and regional charm.

9:30 am – Breakfast at Restaurant Beim Méchel

Start your day at Restaurant Beim Méchel in Mersch. On weekdays, you can enjoy a relaxed breakfast here – whether sweet or savoury. Every Sunday, the restaurant also serves a carefully prepared brunch with regional specialities. Booking in advance is recommended, as the Sunday brunch is very popular.

10:30 am – Hike on the Guttland.Trail Mamerleeën

Once fuelled, head to the starting point at the Obilisk at Krounebierg. The trail leads you through shady forests, past striking sandstone rocks and mysterious caves. The absolute highlight is the Mamerleeën cave sytem, a combination of natural and artificial tunnels stretching over a kilometre. One of the most impressive spots is the Huellee cave, which offers a unique view of the tower of Schoenfels Castle. Shortly after, you’ll reach the legendary Hunnebuer – a peaceful pond where, according to legend, the Hun King Attila once watered his horses. The trail ends with the narrow gorge called Wollefsgriecht, a shady and magical finale, especially refreshing on a hot summer’s day.
