Rebetiko of the diaspora

Founded in Frankfurt in the early 1980s, the Prosechòs ensemble is considered the first Rebetiko group in Germany and is today regarded as one of the most important representatives of this musical style in Europe. For more than four decades, Prosechòs has been dedicated to preserving and passing on Rebetiko, the Greek urban music often described as the “Greek blues”, which explores themes such as nostalgia, exile, freedom and the joy of life.

Led by singer and bouzouki player Yannis Karis, the only founding member still performing with the group, the ensemble combines the musical traditions of Piraeus and Smyrna with an authentic sound and an international line-up.
