Whether it’s the panoramic lift, the funicular railway ("Funiculaire") in Pfaffenthal or wide fields and impressive views: this tour of the Syre and Alzette valleys leaves nothing to be desired.

Highlights of the route: a diverse route where urban and rural spaces alternate. The highlight is certainly the trip by panoramic lift from Luxembourg City to Pfaffenthal and then the funicular railway ("Funiculaire") back up to Kirchberg.

Directions

Please follow the Vëlosummer signage. We recommend travelling this circular route in a clockwise direction.

Start the tour at the Luxexpo - Pôle d'échange Kirchberg.

The tour starts through the modern neighbourhood of Kirchberg, where there are several places to stop for refreshments, such as the open-air restaurant Kyosk. After a shady ride through the forest, you arrive in Syrtal and right next to the car park on Senningerberg is the ‘Porta Vecchia’ pizzeria with terrace. From here, head towards Hostert via Niederanven to Syren and then back to Luxembourg City via Fentange and Itzig. To round off the tour, take a ride on the panoramic lift and the funicular railway ("Funiculaire").

Even if you’re on traffic-calmed roads: adhere to the Highway Code and keep in mind that you might cross residents or farmers along your route.

Equipment

Make sure your bike is safe to ride. Always carry a spare inner tube, tyre levers and a pump. A helmet and good lighting are also important. Don't forget to take a water bottle and a basic tool kit for minor repairs.
