Military Heritage

Part of the military heritage of the Guttland region is the German military cemetery in Sandweiler. This is the resting place for 10 913 German soldiers who died in the heavy fighting in the winter/spring of 1944/45 in the Luxembourg-Belgian and Luxembourg-German border area. A soldier who died in the First World War also found his final resting place here.

The cemetery was the first after World War II that the “Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge” established outside the German borders.
