The Syre, a river with many faces

3-day-hike from the source to the river mouth

Discover the beautiful foreland of the Guttland and Moselle regions with their old orchards, beech forests and picturesque villages. Hiking along the Syre river, you will find two important nature reserves listed in the European Natura 2000 network: the “Schlammwiss” with its wetlands, and the “Manternacher Fiels” with its impressive canyon forest and premium hiking trail, the so-called “Dream loop”. After passing the Betzdorf castle, current headquarter of the world's leading provider of satellite telecommunication services SES, you can notice that the initially small Syre river, slowly turns into a proper river with strong currents. Finally, you’ll reach the wine-growing village of Mertert along the Moselle river, where you’ll walk through its magnificent park with a pond of about 3,000 m2, a castle and an English garden.
