Municipality of Helperknapp - a dream destination for time travelers

Lovers of history and nature, admirers of legends and culture,

Welcome to our time travel! Departure is at the Roman tumulus, situated in a village called Bill, which lies at the foot of the Helperknapp. On this spot, there is a chapel and a wonder source whose water allegedly cured Charles the Great of an eye disease. If you continue your path, you will encounter the Bricherknäppchen chapel, and the 13th-century Marienthal Abbey, which nowadays houses a youth center. A little further down the valley lies the large Ansemburg Castle, whose wonderful gardens and mythological sculptures and fountains invite for a relaxing walk.

If you feel like staying in the "Valley of the Seven Castles", you can book a weeklong stay in the medieval castle of Ansemburg. The Count himself transformed the ancestral seat into a charming hotel with great attention to detail. Another accommodation, the Hotel Gwendy, is located in Bour. One way or the other, you will not be able to avoid the breath of history, as even the youth hostel is housed in the annexes of the medieval castle of Hollenfels.

Around this very castle, you will find marked forest trails, as well as cycling and mountain-bike trails, from where you can discover the region. There is a possibility to charge or rent e-bikes upon previous request in the hostel. We will not list all the surprises that await you on your tours! One may just mention the legendary rock on which once ... But no, it should remain thrilling – come and hear about the story of the Reiterlee on the spot!
